Do Men Snore More than Women?

One of the most common snoring questions we get from couples is who snores more, men or women?

According to some research, up to 80% of men at least sporadically, which is double the number compared to women which is at about 40%.

Why? Partially, it’s been deemed inconclusive as to why this is so.

However, one theory suggests that it’s the difference in jaw size. More so, a womans jaw tends to be more recessed and smaller whereas a mans jaw is more prominent and larger.  With a smaller jaw and normal sized tongue, there’s less room for the soft palette to flutter when the tongue relaxes during sleep. With women typically having smaller jaws and less room for the tongue, they’re less likely snore yet this relaxation of the tongue can cause an apnea that arouses them out of sleep or causes them to sleep lightly. So it has been suggested that women may snore less yet be more apt to suffer from obstructive sleep apnea.

Still, there is more to be desired in terms of cause over this phenomena.
